PIZZERIA CAVALESE - Sunter, Jakarta Utara

[RESTAURANT REVIEW] Finally, a new authentic Italian Restaurant in Sunter, North Jakarta! There are a few new restaurants around Ruko Green Lake Sunter, but this Italian Restaurant caught my attention with the big sign on the top of the store. Well, I am a fan of Western Italian cuisine :)

I got the chance to talk to the owner about the concept of this restaurant. And the name Pizzeria Cavalese comes from a city in North Italy called Cavalese. It was the city where he started to pursue the cooking career because he is the Chef himself in this restaurant. I'm glad that I also got the chance to talk about the food and future business of this restaurant. They just opened it on 4th December 2015, which is just 2 weeks when I visited there on 19th December 2015.

Since this is just 2 weeks from opening, he is still improving on some menus and thinking to change or remove a few menus for a better overall menus. He asked me as a food blogger for some feedbacks about the menu and I tried to give him the most honest opinion, including on this post.

The overall ambience of this place is very homey like its your own home. They use a lot of wooden material and brown color to bring more comfort. Well, bloggers love to take wooden background because it brings minimalistic, relaxation and elegant in a simple way.

A lot of the menus were inspired by North Italian cuisine, although you gonna find it just like any other Italian restaurants with Pizza and Pasta as the main menus. But they brought something new to the pizza or the pasta with some twist on the ingredients.

SEAFOOD PIZZA - IDR 115.000++

I forgot the real name of this menu and the price was between the range of IDR 110.000 to 120.000++. But this was your typical Pizza with seafood toppings. The pizza dough was not very thin and not very thick. So, its a Napoleon kind of Pizza with medium thickness.

If you love seafood, then this one would be very perfect because the shrimp, salmon and squid smelled soo fresh! They put quite a lot of seafood in there and the size was very big. Good to share for up to 3 - 4 persons.

PESTO CON POLLO - IDR 65.000++

Personally, this is my most favorite menu from all the foods that I tried. I always love Pesto which is creamy paste made from blended garlic, basil leaves, cheese, and olive oil. It smells soo good, that I regularly order Spaghetti with Pesto anywhere when I visit Italian Restaurant.

The chef talked about a specific basil leaves that is original from Italy but grown locally here. At first, I though that basil is just like any other kemangi leaves that you normally see in Pecel Lele or Nasi Uduk, but then he said they use a different kind of basil which is harder to get here.

This penne pesto menu was unexceptionally good! The chicken was very tender, the overall Penne was creamy and al dente with some mushroom and Parmesan cheese. This is very recommended!

CALDA - IDR 55.000++

Calda is the italian word for Spicy. Though as a spicy food lover, for me this was just mild spicy but for some might be spicier. Calda is similar to Aglio Olio, a typical dry spaghetti with Sambal Matah (Indonesian sambal using garlic, red onion, and chili) and a little bit of olive oil. There were some chunks of Tuna in there which for me was very good! at first, I thought that it was Duck because the texture was very similar and it didn't smell like fish. But then I surprised when I realized it was Tuna. This is a unique menu for me!

LIME CHEESE MOUSSE - IDR 42.000++

At the time of my visit, this mousse texture was a bit too dense for my liking. I expected it to be very smooth, especially when you first dig into it. But I did give some feedback to the chef, so I expected it to be improved later. The overall taste was sour from blueberry, cheesy and crunchy from the crumble on top.

STRAWBERRY DELIGHT - IDR 32.000++

Its a typical tropical fresh mocktail made of fresh Strawberry, Strawberry Syrup, Coconut Milk, and Fresh Milk. I tasted like some banana flavor in it, but it wasn't described on the menu. But it was a good mocktail!

CAVALESE PUNCH - IDR 32.000++

A mocktail combination of Guava Juice, Lychee fruit, Melon Fruit and a scoop of Vanilla Ice Cream. Very refreshing!

CAPUCINNO - IDR 29.000++

The cappuccino here was very very strong! I can say its the strongest and the most bitter Capucinno I ever tried as long as I remember. Its not that I said it in a negative way. If you are a hardcore coffee lover, you might like this very much. I talked to the chef about this coffee standard and he explained that they use 2 shots of espresso for the Capucinno.

I can not say it is right or wrong because coffee standard is depending on the barista. For me, this was too bitter and supposed to only use 1 shot of espresso unless we requested an additional espresso shot. But then, they gonna consider my feedback :) Anyway, its a cute artwork

BROWNIES WITH ICE CREAM - IDR 55.000++

This one should be their best selling desserts as they put the picture in one big full page of the menu. The concept of Brownies with Marshmellow, Nutella, and Ice Cream are great, though I have to admit that the brownies itself was dry and tough. Probably it was about the baking and preparation method. But, I did talk to the chef and I gave some feedbacks for this dessert. So, hopefully they gonna improve it soon :) The ice cream was good, although it was not a homemade ice cream. The marshmellow was probably firetorch manually to give a crispy skin texture.

This restaurant has a private room for up to 24 persons on their 3rd floor. And its quite big for a small birthday party or a meeting for business. Certainly there is a minimum charge for this which you can ask directly to the store.

But overall, I love the ambiance, I love the pizza and pasta and certainly I'll come back for more foods :)
