let us introduce you PAVELA - the first Peruvian (Peru) cuisine in town. They have finally landed in Pondok Indah Mall 3 Street Gallery. And we really had no idea how Peruvian cuisine looks and tastes like. So, last Saturday July 30 2016, we were invited for a food tasting here with some bloggers as well. And judging from the food, they really look similar to Indonesian or Asian food actually. A type of cuisine that most Indonesians are used to eat.
Btw, the room was quite narrow comparing to the neighboring restaurants. And the restaurant itself is just like a few months old by the time we wrote this post. Based on what we were introduced to by the owner, Peruvian food incorporates many carbohydrate ingredients just like in Indonesia, such as rice, cassava or corn. When we heard cassava, its kinda unique because we Jakartans don't really eat cassava on main courses. We do have it on finger foods like fried cassava, but well its gonna be interesting to try :)
YUCCA FRITAS
This is fried cassava with Ajiverde sauce (Peruvian green chili sauce). This dish is really similar to fried cassava that we usually find in street food aka gorengan kaki lima. It was really savory and great with the fresh smelled green sauce. They use this fried cassava on a few main courses.
This is our welcome drink Pisco Sour Mocktail which is a famous beverage in Peru, just like Teh Botol S*sro in Indonesia #censored. The original one is using alcohol because its considered common to drink alcohol in Peru. The one that we tried here is kinda like lime beverage because its sour with soda but without alcohol. Very refreshing!
Fried chicken wings with mayonaise as appetizer.
CAUSA CANGREJO - IDR 45.000
This is the second appetizer made of layers of thinly sliced potato, topped with crabstick and sweet corn with Peruvian mayonnaise and fisnished with Rocoto sauce.
POLLO A LA BRASA - IDR 95.000
This was the first dish that we tried and my wife picked this! Basically, its a roasted chicken thigh with cilantro butter rice, salad and fried cassava. It may look very plain and humble, but the chicken thigh was really flavorful and the meat was very moist inside. The butter rice was very fragrant, especially the cilantro leaves. Highly recommended!
POLLO SALTADO - IDR 85.000
This is the main course that I picked for myself. Its a cilantro butter rice with chicken breast fillet, stir-fried with cassava, tomato, and onion that are mixed with saltado sauce. An everyday Peruvian favorite. I personally really liked it, in fact anything made out of chicken breast fillet is my favorite. The overall flavor was kinda like a Chinese rice menu :)
We are not sure the name of the dish below, but its very obvious that it was deep fried battered fish fillet with salad and Ajiverde sauce. The fish was Dori actually, it reminds us with common fish and chips :)
NIKKEI CHICKEN - IDR 80.000
We didn't try this one, but it is fillet chicken marinated in Nikkei sauce and deep-fried, then topped with tartar sauce and chopped parsley. It comes with cilantro butter rice.
BANANA POPSICLES - IDR 40.000
The first dessert here is frozen banana coated with chocolate and chunk of peanuts, and it comes with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. So, you don't lick this Popsicle because it was frozen, instead you bite it. The frozen banana was sweet though.
BEZO DE MOSA - IDR 45.000
The second dessert is dark chocolate cake with marshmallow and peanuts inside, and it comes with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. The cake here was really tough actually, probably because it was frozen when served, so extra chewing effort is needed :)
