House of Yuen, that's the name that is probably unfamiliar to most people including us. Located at Fairmont Hotel Jakarta 3rd Floor, House of Yuen is operating under 1 Michelin Star restaurant named Sun Tung Lok. From the name itself, you'll guess it right, its a Chinese restaurant focusing on delivering excelent Chinese delicacies in an elegance and sophisticated interior. You can really tell by the time you step in to the restaurant. In this post, we are gonna show you some of the food recommendation here. So, without further a due, let's check it out.
That's our table! If you have your bag with you, they will offer you a beautiful bag basket so that you can put it there safely (without putting your bag on the floor), that's like a 5 star service right?
This is the lists of courses for our lunch here.
First Appetizer: Dimsum Combination - Steamed Shrimp Dumpling, Steamed Vegetarian Dumpling, Chrysantemum Shaped Shrimp Spring Rolls, Deep Fried Taro Dumpling with Diced Chicken. It pretty much explains the whole appetizers, served in a heavy black stone :) My favorite is the taro dumpling, I mean like its my favorite any where whenever I have dimsum!
Second appetizer is their signature Salted Egg Fish Skin! Its crispy and its perfectly creamy covered with the best salted egg. A very recommended one!
Then here came the soup: Fresh Crab Meat and Seafood Soup! Soup was very thick and flavorful with that unique sour flavor for a fresh seafood soup. And the seafood was very generous as well. I really enjoyed this!
This one was the most exciting part: Pecking Duck crispy skin peeling! Pecking Duck, besides the tender meat, is famous for its crispy skin wrapped with thin wonton dough. That's why in an upscale Chinese restaurant or probably in a Hotel's wedding receiption, you'll very often find this wrapped crispy skin menu. Here's the peeling process.
This is the crispy duck wrapped dish, normally have it with sweet dipping sauce like barbeque. It comes with some crackers. Despite being wrapped, I could still feel the crispiness of the duck skin inside the roll.
While for the duck meat, you got to enjoy the tender duck with sweet black pepper sauce. This one was really enjoyable to eat and its not chewy at all.
The second main course is Braised Prime Rib of Beef with House Gravy. OMG this was super tender and smooth, the meat torn apart so effortless even only with my spoon! Once in your mouth, you just need to enjoy the smoothness and the tenderness of the beef texture. Please be reminded that this is not the normal portion because the waitress distributed the whole dish into several individual portions equally (around 9 portions).
As for a soupy main course, this one is Stir-Fried Lobster and Jasmine Rice served in Lobster Soup. A warm lobster broth with carrot, hu pio (fish belly) and some big chunks of Lobster meat! It really reminded me of a comfort food cooked by mom at home, super good :)
Finally, the warm desserts! Deep fried glutinous ball aka onde, stuffed with custard accompanied by steamed layer cake with pandan paste. The onde was hands down THE BEST one we had so far. Like its not a cliche statement but once its served hot and you bit it, its like still burning hot. But that's when you have to quickly enjoy it. Impressed!
Overall, we had a luxurious yet comfortable and memorable lunch here. We really suggest you to come with your family or in a group of 4 - 5 people to share a few dishes together, because the dishes here are mainly shareable.
